Laser Hair Removal FAQ
What are the benefits of this process?
Permanent hair removal
Increased comfort during treatment, no risk of infection, accuracy and speed
Non-invasive treatment (needles do not penetrate the skin)
FDA approved technology
What causes abnormal hair growth?
Abnormal hair growth can be caused by heredity, irregular hormone levels and some medications. There are other rare causes of abnormal hair growth.
How does laser hair removal work?
This remarkable new treatment destroys hair follicles with a light source or true laser. This laser produces a high energy flash of light that passes safely through the skin. The light is then absorbed by the follicle and converted into hear, destroying the follicle. Lightly pigmented or normal untanned skin absorbs very little of the light energy and is not damaged by the laser.
How are laser hair removal treatments performed?
A cool gel is placed onto the skin, followed by the laser being placed over the gel and the triggering of light through the handpiece
Will it be painful?
The majority of patients are able to tolerate this process quite well. The laser is pulsed so rapidly, that only a mild sting is felt. This procedure does not require any form of medication or anesthesia prior nor during the trial. However, if necessary, topical anesthetic will be provided upon request.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
Theoretically, damage to the hair follicle can remove unwanted hair permanently, but because of the nature of hair and the many factors that influence the growth of hair, the results are variable. The effect of repeated treatments is cumulative. In fact, most people experience long-term hair removal.
Is laser hair removal safe?
As with any medical treatment, use of any Laser Hair Removal System may have some side effects. However, side effects have been minor and manageable in clinical use.
What conditions are treated with the laser?
Waxing, shaving, and plucking are inconvenient, time-consuming and temporal. Our system safely and conveniently eliminates unwanted body hair without damaging the skins fragile pores and structure. Large regions of the body can be treated rapidly, while smaller regions such as lips or eyebrows are treated in virtually minutes.
What is the procedure like?
The procedure begins by first cleansing and shaving the region that is to be treated. After the laser is turned on or pulsed it is passed over the desired region for a fragment of a second at a time. Without damaging the surrounding tissue, pulses of light penetrate the skin and are absorbed by hair follicles. The laser energy is transferred to heat, and the heat destroys the potential for hair regrowth.
Who are the best candidates for this treatment?
This treatment is extended to all individuals. Our staff customizes treatments depending on skin tone, texture, hair color and region. Nearly all hair colors and skin tones can successfully treated.
How many treatments are required?
The hair growing cycle occurs in phases and varies from person to person. For some individuals, several treatments may be necessary to disable hair follicles that subsequently enter the growth phase. Each patient will be advised as to the approximate number of treatments before the procedure.
What are the possible side effects?
Side effects are not common. Mild redness, slight scabbing and irritation may occur around the treated area, but will disappear rapidly or within several days following the trial. In rare cases, the treated skin may become mildly lighter or darker. Our staff will inform you of your condition and necessary procedures during the first free consultation.
